Evil Incorporated

Meet the Hedge Fund Managers Turning a Profit on the Sandy Hook Massacre:
While some of the nation’s largest hedge funds and money managers have paused in the wake of Sandy Hook to review their portfolios for exposure to gun stocks, and in some cases begin the process of selling off their gun assets, two hedge funds have done just the opposite. Jeffrey Altman, Founder and Portfolio Manager for Owl Creek Asset Management, and Robert Bishop, of Impala Asset Management, each seized an opportunity in the days following the Sandy Hook Shooting, to purchase millions of shares in gun stocks (1,616,300 shares [valued at $13,642,000] and 893,938 shares [valued at $27,787,000], respectively). Notice of Altman’s and Bishop’s purchases only became available when they disclosed their fund’s 4th Quarter 2012 holdings to the SEC, in February [HERE, and HERE]. Altman’s and Bishop’s intentions, as deduced by peers in asset management, are to turn the fears and murmurations of new gun regulations into profits, as a newly fabricated demand for firearms like the Bushmaster .223 Caliber Assault Rifle, the AR-15 and the Ruger Mini-14—each potentially at risk of regulations—outpaces their supply on shelves at retailers.
In my view, to the extent there is a gun massacre conspiracy, it's about creating a vicious cycle where shootings create a political climate where there is some sense to limit gun access (they are never going to be banned in the US), which gets the fears of gun fetishists up that guns will be restricted, thus creating more demands for guns, benefiting the gun manufacturers and getting more guns into the public arena, making it easier for the next gun massacre, etc.

And THIS is just madness, IMO:
"Make Love Loudly. Make War Silently."
So reads an ad for the Advanced Armament Company, which produces silencers for assault weapons. These gadgets, long associated with snipers and Hollywood assassins, represent the latest push by a gun industry seeking new ways to boost sales in a country that is already home to some 310 million civilian firearms.
The silencer industry is "the highest-growth niche of the firearms industry right now," says Josh Waldron, founder and CEO of the Utah-based Silencerco. According to Waldron, the industry has seen 400 to 500 percent growth over the past five years. In 2008, he says, American silencer companies sold about 18,000 units in the United States. In fiscal 2012, "We're gonna do over 110,000."
Further growth, though, is somewhat hampered by the fact that silencers (also called "suppressors") are tightly regulated—even more so than the guns they attach to. Silencers are a Class III weapon regulated under the National Firearms Act, a Prohibition-era law that was designed to curtail or even prohibit the transfer of weapons deemed especially dangerous, like machine guns.
Because of this designation, buying a silencer requires a full FBI background check of the sort undergone by people applying for federal jobs, a process that can take up to eight months, Waldron says, and there's a one-time $200 tax imposed to cover it, which drives up the cost. (The tax was supposed to be a big deterrent to buying NFA weapons in 1934, when the act was implemented, but it hasn't gone up since Al Capone's heyday.) Illegally possessing a silencer can bring mandatory federal jail sentences of up to 10 years and fines up to $250,000. The devices are banned entirely in 11 states, including California and New York, and many states limit their use for hunting and on public lands.

I would think reasonable people can agree that gun silencers should be at least tightly regulated, and not easily available. But of course to read comments, is to learn that people have ALL kinds of strange and seemingly unreasonable views...

33 of the Day

Tragic:
Poachers killed at least 86 elephants in Chad last week, including 33 pregnant females and 15 calves, conservation groups said Tuesday, warning that elephants in Central Africa risked being wiped out by such slaughters. The killing was the worst in the region since more than 300 elephants were slaughtered in Cameroon early last year. Both raids took place during the dry season, when poachers armed with automatic weapons carry out coordinated attacks on herds of elephants in the region. The attack was reported to have taken place on March 14 and 15 in southern Chad, near the border with Cameroon. Citing local officials, the World Wildlife Fund said the poachers were on horseback and spoke Arabic, suggesting that they may have been the same group involved in the 2012 attack in northern Cameroon. Conservationists warn that criminal gangs are trafficking huge quantities of tusks to cash in on soaring demand for ivory in Asia.
Poachers are just about the biggest scum imaginable...

33 of the Day

Today, in a Democracy Now! special on this week’s 10th anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, we spend the hour looking at the remarkable life and imminent death of one Iraq veteran: 33-year-old Tomas Young. He recently announced he’s decided to end his life by discontinuing his nourishment, which comes in the form of liquid through a feeding tube.
Tomas Young’s tragedy goes back to 2001. Just two days after the 9/11 attacks, he signed off—he signed up for the military after hearing President Bush’s Ground Zero pledge to go after those responsible. He wanted to deploy to Afghanistan, but instead he was sent to Iraq. On the fifth day into his deployment in Iraq, on April 4th, 2004, Tomas’s unit came under fire in Sadr City. He was left paralyzed, never to walk again. Released from medical care, he returned home to become an active member of Iraq Veterans Against the War.
AMY GOODMAN: He was wounded on the same day that Cindy Sheehan’s son, Casey Sheehan, was killed, April 4th, 2004. Tomas Young’s story was the subject of the award-winning documentary Body of War, made by the legendary talk show host Phil Donahue and the filmmaker Ellen Spiro. The 2007 film follows Tomas’s rehabilitation, his struggles with his injuries, his political awakening to become one of the most prominent antiwar U.S. veterans of the invasion and occupation of Iraq.

10th Anniversary of the Invasion of Iraq

Probably the biggest overall disaster of my adult life-- the destruction of entire country.  Over a million lives taken, many more destroyed, a massive amount of money squandered (up to $6 trillion), and incredible waste all the way around.  And the country is still a war torn mess.  Extensive round up of articles about the Iraq war horrors and crimes here.  And oh yeah, MI6 and CIA were told before invasion that Iraq had no active WMD.

Has ANYONE been held accountable for this MASSIVE CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY?

No, of course not.  The US media will hardly talk about what we did to Iraq, much less BLAME anyone.  Of course, the media themselves are largely responsible.  The media corporations-- CNN, Fox, ABC, NBC, ABC, NYTimes, Washington Post-- all bear major blame.

But just as important are the individuals in government and the media who brought us this horror-- the Iraq war propagandists:

George W. Bush,
Dick Cheney,
Condoleeza Rice,
Donald Rumsfeld,
George Tenet
Richard Perle,
Doug Feith,
Paul Wolfowitz,
Bill Kristol,
Tom Friedman,
Charles Krauthammer
Frank Gaffney,
Robert Kagan,
James Woolsey,
Laurie Mylroie,
Kenneth Pollack,
Colin Powell,
Michael O’Hanlon,
Sean Hannity,
Bill O’Reilly,
Rush Limbaugh,
John Bolton,
Ahmad Chalabi,
Tony Blair,
Judith Miller,
Karl Rove,
David Frum
any and all Senators and Congresspeople who actively promoted the war.

And I am sure I am missing many others, but these are the most prominent.

The criminals all deserve a special form of justice, but that will likely never come.  Nor will they rot in hell, since I don't think biblical hell exists.  Maybe they should all be sent to live as a poor person in Iraq, and see what that is like.  That might be some justice.   Really, they need to be imprisoned and their assets seized and given back to the country to help pay for the damage they caused.

And of course, at the heart of it, was 9/11, for whom many of the same people can be held responsible.  For the brutalization of Iraq could not have been done without 9/11.

US Colonel James Steele-- Oversaw Torture Units and Shia Death Squads in Iraq

What a horrible person-- a real war criminal, someone who reported to General Petraeus and Donald Rumsfeld:

Good thing for him the Bush administration didn't sign onto the International Criminal Court... what a coincidence.

America Is and Always Has Been Rotten, Immoral, Corrupt

The crimes are endless... just in the last 11 years, the inhuman evil we've committed as a nation is stunning, grotesque, sick, unthinkable, paralyzing in its implications.

And yet... life goes on us, in a not so terrible way, for most of us... most Americans have a comfortable standard of living compared to the vast majority of the world... almost as if our endless crimes are paying for the relative luxury we live in.

We are comfortable until we confront our history, and contemplate our actions overseas, the actions of corporations hidden away, the evil in places we don't see....

Even something like Indefinite Detention of prisoners at Guantanamo, and the torture of terror suspects, is relatively small in the grand scheme of evil in the world, but they are all still amazingly evil and fucked up.

The Iraq war, The Afghanistan war, an endless drone war in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Yemen-- unbelievable, staggering wastes of life and resources and money.

Pure evil committed by the US, that is mostly ignored, papered over, shunned by polite society.  Americans are simply embarrassed to talk of such things.

Other things like the war on drugs and Prison Industrial complex inflict needless and horrendous suffering on Americans. Abuse of women, abuse of the environment, the list goes on.

The evil has always been here too, since this country was founded.  The slaughter of native Americans, slavery, constant war.

It makes me sick to hear people say where has America gone wrong, is if there was ever a real Golden Age.  We have always been sick and corrupt. Just like most countries-- especially like the countries and people that we like to demonize.   The evil others.

Where to stop, where to begin, what to do except for throw one's hands up and say fuck it?

And I haven't even gotten to FUCKING 9/11. Or the myriad other conspiracies or the deeper scarier truths.

But America-- what a strange evil place.  So many many good and caring people.  So much art and beauty and creativity and intelligence and talent.  So much natural beauty.  So many good things in all the people.

SO HOW THE FUCK DID WE END UP CO-EXISTING WITH SO MUCH FUCKING EVIL??????

I mean, I KNOW to some extent how and why...  I'm more just pointing out the existential angst of it all.

BUT-- I do have hope.  I think America is making slow and steady progress toward being a better, more human country.  Young people give me hope-- but there are just so many evil institutions that must be battled constantly and eventually toppled. It's almost a never-ending struggle because any major revolution eventually leads to the same crap.  It's really a type of evolution we must undergo as a species, and I think the internet is a big part of it.

More Obama Crap

Obama administration to let banks share Americans' financial information with CIA and NSA.

The proposed plan represents a major step by U.S. intelligence agencies to spot and track down terrorist networks and crime syndicates by bringing together financial databanks, criminal records and military intelligence. The plan, which legal experts say is permissible under U.S. law, is nonetheless likely to trigger intense criticism from privacy advocates.

Financial institutions that operate in the United States are required by law to file reports of "suspicious customer activity," such as large money transfers or unusually structured bank accounts, to Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN).

The Treasury plan would give spy agencies the ability to analyze more raw financial data than they have ever had before, helping them look for patterns that could reveal attack plots or criminal schemes.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation already has full access to the database. However, intelligence agencies, such as the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency, currently have to make case-by-case requests for information to FinCEN.

The planning document, dated March 4, shows that the proposal is still in its early stages of development, and it is not known when implementation might begin.

Financial institutions file more than 15 million "suspicious activity reports" every year, according to Treasury. Banks, for instance, are required to report all personal cash transactions exceeding $10,000, as well as suspected incidents of money laundering, loan fraud, computer hacking or counterfeiting.
"For these reports to be of value in detecting money laundering, they must be accessible to law enforcement, counter-terrorism agencies, financial regulators, and the intelligence community," said the Treasury planning document.

What could possibly go wrong?

Bush Administration War Criminals

The Pentagon is investigating allegations linking the US military to human rights abuses in Iraq by police commando units who operated a network of detention and torture centres.

A 15-month investigation by the Guardian and BBC Arabic, published on Wednesday, disclosed that the US sent a veteran of the "dirty wars" in Central America to oversee Iraqi commando units involved in some of the worst acts of torture during the American-led occupation.

The allegations, made by US and Iraqi witnesses, implicate US advisers for the first time in these human rights abuses. It is also the first time that the then US commander in Iraq, David Petraeus, has been linked through an adviser to the abuses.

Colonel Jack Wesley, a Pentagon spokesman, told the Guardian on Thursday: "Obviously we have seen the reports and we are currently looking into the situation."

In an email, he added: "As you know the issue surrounding accusation of abuse and torture of Iraqi detainees is a complex one that is full of history and emotion. It will take time to work a thorough response."

The Pentagon argument is that it needs time because of the legal implications and also because those named in the documentary no longer serve in the military.

The relatively muted response in the US contrasted with that in Iraq. In Samarra, one of the centres of the Sunni insurgency against US-led forces and where Iraqis are alleged to have been tortured in a library, residents greeted a showing of the documentary on Wednesday evening.

Waleed Khalid said thousands of people gathered in the city for anti-government protests were excited to watch part of the documentary and there was a plan to set up big screens to show the whole film on Friday.
Gee, so hard to figure out what will happen to this investigation....

Your New Jesuit Pope-- Pope Francis

Apparently this guy is the first guy to be a Jesuit pope.  End times?

Actually, I have no idea what this means, although Charlie Pierce says this means Dan Brown gets to write 5 more novels...

The guy undoubtedly has some crap in his past, and he's old too. Overall, I'm not going to get too worked up about the corrupt ancient institution of the Catholic church, even if they are a pillar of global conspiracy.

Interesting, yesterday was 3/13/13, or 13/3/13 European style.  Three 3's!

The Philip Marshall Death

Not sure if I should add him to the dead 9/11 whistleblowers list, or not... sounds like he was knocked off, along with his children tragically, but the guy was a "plane hugger"* and was promoting a really limited hangout view of 9/11-- so what kind of inside info could he really have had?

Maybe it was some weird psy-op to make people think he was onto something and planes were real, etc.

And oh yeah, now TSA is letting passenger carry small knives onto planes? But still not boxcutters, because of 9/11?

So incredibly stupid.

*wow, haven't used that word for a long time.

The Catholic Priesthood: the Biggest and Richest Gay Men's Club in the World?

Tee hee:
A day ahead of the papal conclave, faces at the scandal-struck Vatican were even redder than usual after it emerged that the Holy See had purchased a €23 million (£21 million) share of a Rome apartment block that houses Europe’s biggest gay sauna.

The senior Vatican figure sweating the most due to the unlikely proximity of the gay Europa Multiclub is probably Cardinal Ivan Dias, the head of the Congregation for Evangelisation of Peoples, who is due to participate in tomorrow’s election at the Sistine Chapel.
This 76-year-old “prince of the church” enjoys a 12-room apartment on the first-floor of the imposing palazzo, at 2 Via Carducci, just yards from the ground floor entrance to the steamy flesh pot. There are 18 other Vatican apartments in the block, many of which house priests.
The Holy See is still reeling from allegations that the previous pontiff, Benedict XVI, had quit in reaction to the presence of a gay cabal in the curia.
And with disgraced Scottish cardinal Keith O’Brien lending new weight to charges of hypocrisy against the Church’s stance on homosexuality, La Repubblica newspaper noted that the presence of “Italy’s best known gay sauna in the premises is an embarrassment”.

The Criminal Mainstream Media Lies About How Conservative the US Is

thus skewing US politicians to the right.... which benefits the evil PTB/elites.

Broockman and Skovron find that all legislators consistently believe their constituents are more conservative than they actually are. This includes Republicans and Democrats, liberals and conservatives. But conservative legislators generally overestimate the conservatism of their constituents by 20 points. “This difference is so large that nearly half of conservative politicians appear to believe that they represent a district that is more conservative on these issues than is the most conservative district in the entire country,” Broockman and Skovron write. This finding held up across a range of issues.

Surprised? I'm not. The study doesn't answer the question as to why this might be, but I have a quick answer: the political media and the donor class are more conservative than the rest of us. I don't know how many thousands of times I've heard the phrase "it's a conservative country" from pundits and commentators but I've heard it many times. And it isn't just that explicit belief, but a whole set of assumptions that permeate the commentary at every level. It goes all the way back to Joseph Kraft's famous column from 1968 to today when you hear the media complain about the voters being stupid and selfish when they seem not to support conservative policies for their own good.

Motherfuckers.

Jimmy Carter Actually Downsized and Reformed the CIA

No wonder he is so reviled on the right and by the PTB.

From a good overall piece on the history of American policy on extrajudicial assassination and targeted killings by Mark Ames.

.... and note the 33:
"Which brings us to early 1981, and Reagan’s executive order 12333 which has been falsely described as "banning assassinations" by critics of Bush and now Obama. Scott Horton, writing in Harpers last year, has a good description:
But as with so much U.S. national-security legislation, this order turns out to be far less than meets the eye. Simplified, [Reagan’s EO] could be summarized this way: "No one shall be assassinated—unless the president authorizes it, in which case we will refrain from calling it an assassination."

33 Watch

I have cataloged a large number of 33's in the 9/11/01 attack (for what it is worth), but just this morning realized I forgot a major 3-3 for 9/11:

Officially, 3 planes crashed into 3 buildings. 3-3.

There does appear to be a large number of 33's in the official 9/11 story.  Whether that indicates pure coincidence, or they are there intentionally to show planning by the PTB, or they are they by some sort of mystical numerical-synchronicity indicating a supernatural component of 9/11, I really can't say.  My guess is that it's a combination of the last two.

"The Power of Nightmares"

This BBC2 series is several years old now, and while I had heard a lot about it a few years back, I only just now watched it. It gives some good historical background on Neoconservatives and Islamic fundamentalism.

So key points from the series:
1) Neoconservatives are fucking war mongering assholes
2) Neoconservatives are fucking idiots in terms of political philosophy
3) Neoconservatives no qualms about lying to the public, creating a false reality and in using the Big Lie technique.

4) Islamic fundamentalists, like most religious fanatics, are brainwashed idiots
5) Al Qaeda is a total fiction-- it was basically invented by a captive Islamist and promoted by US prosecutors to make a racketeering case against the African embassy bombers in 1998.

It is impressively skeptical against the war on terror, for its time back in 2004.  Interestingly, this show must have really freaked out the PTB, as the show really pulls back the curtain on manipulating the masses and then unfortunately  makes a big deal how unlikely an attack on Britain is.  So in 2005, there were the 7/7 London bombings.  I have to think that attack was set up in part to counter the skepticism that was promoted by the show.

So I Think the WTC Was Nuked...

but I really don't have a lot of trouble understanding why people might not want to accept that idea, or at least publicly proclaim it. (I am talking particularly about people who are not into conspiracies or who are hearing about the nuking for the first time. People who are more familiar with the evidence and conspiracy in general, are a different story.)

Yet Judy Wood and friends put out an incredibly vague theory about the destruction of the WTC, something involving free energy technology, and refuse to give ANY details on the physics involved.  At the same time, they just CAN'T seem to COMPREHEND why they aren't taken seriously.

The hilarious thing would be is if some sort of novel beam weapon technology WAS used to destroy the WTC, and Judy Wood is actually a psy-ops plant to try to turn people away from that idea.

Of course, her theory is so vague, it basically encompasses newer generation nuclear bombs-- which is what I think happened.  Furthermore, most of the "dustification of the WTC" and EMP  phenomena are best explained by nuclear bombs.  Yet, for some reason, she doesn't seem to want to accept that idea.

As I've noted before, the whole Wood business is just very freaky.

Too many freaky people in this business, which is one reason why I have decided to spend less time on this stuff than I used to.
