Interesting Racial Dynamics in this Presidential Election

Imagine the pressure on McCain, from certain quarters of the GOP, to prevent the first black man from becoming president. Imagine how much an equally charismatic but experienced and white Democratic candidate would be leading McCain by at this point, given the current economic and social climate. Imagine the pressure from the Democrat base on Obama to win after eight disastrous years of Bush. Imagine how much Obama losing would be a blow to the Democrats and the chances of them ever nominating a black candidate again. Imagine however, how the current climate might be one of the only times that a black man could have a good shot at running for president.

On the other hand, forgetting about race, imagine what would happen if we actually had a candidate who leveled with the public about 9/11, anthrax and the bogus war on terrorism. Imagine what would happen if we actually had candidate who was actually disturbed about government abuse of power and who cared about punishing the Bush administration for their many crimes. Imagine that.
