Cheney Visits Pakistan
The US Vice President held talks with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf during which he urged him to do more to tackle extremism.
They are understood to have discussed the renewed Taliban offensive in Afghanistan and increasing al Qaeda activity in the region.
A Pakistani official said Mr Cheney had requested that Pakistan "do more", while appreciating the efforts it had already made to combat terror.
Uh, sure.
I wonder what they REALLY talked about.
UPDATE: "General Musharraf-- you've managed to allow Al Qaeda to rebuild itself and combined with Iraq it will require my government to to spend untold billions, if not trillions on military contracts into the indefinite future...
...EXCELLENT"
Sounds about right.
UPDATE 2: Check out the way the NY Times frames the story: "WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 — Vice President Dick Cheney made an unannounced trip to Pakistan on Monday to deliver what officials in Washington described as an unusually tough message Gen. Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan, warning him that the newly Democratic Congress could cut aid to his country unless his forces become far more aggressive in hunting down operatives with Al Qaeda."
(emphasis added)
Tee hee! Cheney is happy with the status quo! It's just those pesky Democrats that want to get "Al Qaeda".

"you are either with us or you are with the terrorist."
^george bush.
seems like cheney's visit to pakistan was all 'hush hush' but terra'ists had no trouble finding him.
from the nytimes:
Mr. Cheney’s trip to Pakistan was shrouded in unusual secrecy. In trips to Pakistan last year, both President Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice announced their plans days in advance, and reporters filed stories on their visits as soon as they landed. But Mr. Cheney’s traveling press pool was sworn to secrecy, and allowed to report only the barest details just before he left.
but here we learn the Taliban 'knew of Cheney visit':
Cheney's visits to Pakistan and Afghanistan were unannounced and shrouded in even tighter secrecy than when US President George W Bush travelled to the two countries in March 2006. Author Ahmed Rashid, who has written a book on the Taliban, said the bombing was a "very provocative" move by the Taliban. "They were waiting for a high-level visit to carry out an attack. This visit, although highly secretive, was known in circles in Kabul and Islamabad," he said. A senior Pakistani counter-terrorism official said the "sophisticated" attack "indicates the militants' preparedness and the quality of their intelligence collection in the run-up to the so-called spring offensive".
i guess we're supposed to be scared into thinking now that to terra'ists have some massive intelligence op and know all cheney's moves regardless of the level of secrecy.
and so it goes... the scripted high level political games continue.
