Obama Wasn't a "Natural Born Citizen"???
I can understand the argument that Obama was born in Kenya-- it makes some sense, though it's hard to know for sure if that is the case. What I really don't understand is the argument that some people make, that Obama wasn't a "natural born citizen" of the US-- even if he was born in the US-- because his father was a British citizen. Does anyone understand that argument who can explain it to me? It seems the constitution does not clarify what "natural born citizen" means, but isn't the common law standard that if you were born on US territory, that you are a "natural born citizen"? Isn't that the whole point of "Anchor babies"?

i've never seen anything to that effect. i think it is a straw-man designed to distract from the fact that obama's birth certificate (as well as his SS#) is an obvious phony.
that is a subset of the birther argument for Obama not being a citizen. It's noted in that website listed above. I've heard the argument from several people but most recently from Chris Strunk, on Fetzer's show:

there is a lot of controversy over what "natural born citizen" means. There is some historical precedent for the argument that not only do you have to be born in the US to be a citizen but your parents also have to be citizens. But it's never been firmly settled. The site:

does a good job of going over a lot of the case-law and it is fairly complicated... the bottom line is that for better or worse, state and federal judges have held that Obama is a natural born citizen by being born in Hawaii. But there is actually a LOT of history here and Obama isn't the first one to be challenged in this way.
