Who Honestly Believes Anymore

that the Israelis are the "good guys" in this conflict?
BEIRUT, Lebanon (CNN) -- An Israeli airstrike hit a United Nations post in southern Lebanon late Tuesday, killing at least two of the agency's observers, according to the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon.

I am NOT saying Hezbollah are the good guys either-- it's just that increasingly, it's harder and harder to justify Israel's actions. And given the history of the UN and Israel, it's hard to believe this was a mere accident.

But the larger problem is that the overall strategy of Israel here is rather unclear, and while Israel might achieve some limited objectives, it's getting harder to see how they win the war.

israel's strategy may be unclear but their goal is patently obvious: water.
observe the maps: this one will do.
lebanon is ordered to evacuate the south - that is where the water is.

From the official UNIFIL press release:

http://www.un.org/Depts/dpko/missions/unifil/pr010.pdf

Another UN position of the Ghanaian battalion in the area of Marwahin in the western sector was also directly hit by one mortar round from the Hezbollah side last night. The round did not explode, and there were no casualties or material damage. Another 5 incidents of firing close to UN positions from the Israeli side were reported yesterday. It was also reported that Hezbollah fired from the vicinity of four UN positions at Alma ash Shab, Tibnin, Brashit, and At Tiri. All UNIFIL positions remain occupied and maintained by the troops.

Why do you never tell the whole truth, Spooked?

"We received emails from him a few days ago, and he was describing the fact that he was taking fire within, in one case, three meters of his position for tactical necessity, not being targeted. Now that's veiled speech in the military. What he was telling us was Hezbollah soldiers were all over his position and the IDF were targeting them. And that's a favorite trick by people who don't have representation in the UN. They use the UN as shields knowing that they can't be punished for it."

The Isreali strike on the UN post looks completely different when you know the whole story, doesn't it?

KIRYAT SHEMONA, Israel (AP) - U.N. observers in southern Lebanon called the Israeli military 10 times during a six-hour period to ask it to halt an airstrike before their observation post was hit, according to details of a preliminary U.N. report on the incident. Four U.N. observers were killed in the bombing Tuesday. The U.N. observers said the area within half a mile of the post was hit with precision munitions, including 17 bombs and 12 artillery shells, four of which directly hit the post Tuesday, the report said.

News report from Ireland on bombing of UN Observation post

If you listen to the Irish news at the start of the link above you will hear how the Irish UN troops repeatedly warned Israel that they were bombing close to a UN site, and the bombs kept getting closer until they hit.
