The Art of the Fugue, Contrapunctus 14

This was Bach's last fugue. He died before he finished writing it. It's a great fugue, and it is always very weird to get to that last note...

The Art of the Fugue is an amazing work overall-- it is a whole series of fugues in D minor based on a very similar theme, but in different styles.

If you are looking for a recording of "The Art of the Fugue", I highly recommend the version by the Emerson String Quartet. They do a great job of bringing out the voices and you can hear things that aren't so apparent if the music is played on a keyboard. The music is very stark for the most part-- kind of somber, very moody and thoughtful.
