"Men In Black"

I watched this movie last night for the first time. It's obviously a primarily a silly, humorous movie. But there were still some interesting bits.

First, the idea that a whole alien world could be going on below the level of "normal" reality is quite interesting, and has specific relevance in terms of how secret agencies might keep the public completely out of the loop of what they do. I know this is not an incredibly novel concept, and probably a fairly typical theme for movies, but still it was interesting to see how they did it in the movie.

Second, the World Trade Center towers were displayed prominently in a few scenes. Perhaps this is not so unusual as the movie was centered in Manhattan. But certainly the ending was quite striking, with an incredible depth of the cosmos zoom-out starting from Battery park in lower Manhattan, giving an interesting perspective on the WTC towers-- and a perspective of the towers curiously related to the CNN "ghostplane" footage.

More interesting to me is the first meteor strike in Armageddon (1998). The damage to the WTC is removed from the shortened TV version because it's way too reminiscent or premonitive. Watch the unedited version and note what the makers assumed would happen if something big hit both the WTC and the Chrysler building.
