Ponerology: the Study of Evil

Is mankind inherently evil? Do we have an "evil" gene? Do some people have a stronger "evil" gene than others? Did mankind's creator purposefully make us evil?

Why are we ruled predominantly by evil people? Who puts them in power? Does power make people evil or does evil make people powerful? Or is there another explanation?
