So United Airlines Could Track the Hijacked Flight 93 But the Military Had No Idea About It (According to the 9/11 Commission)???

This is astounding.

From Jere Longman's "Among the Heroes":
By this time, flight attendants from flight 93 had called United's maintenance center in San Francisco and reported that the plane had been hijacked. The airline's customer service staff also received information that passengers were making calls from the phone's GTE Airfones. Senior management began to gather in the airline's crisis center, a terraced theater-like room that resembled NASA's Mission Control. Andy Studdart, United's chief operating officer, was in the control room. On a screen that was six feet long and four feet high, United's flights were displayed. Other flights were filtered out and Flight 93 was highlighted. Its track appeared red on a black background. At nine thirty-six, near Cleveland, the plane had made an ominous turn to the southeast.

Flight 93's transponder also had been turned off.
The transponder is a receiver/transmitter that gives air traffic control a plane's identity, speed, direction and altitude. On the screen in the crisis center, the flight could still be tracked, but United Officials could no longer tell how high it was flying.
So, officially, no one from either the FAA or United alerted the military about what was going on, and so officially, the military never knew that flight 93 was hijacked until it had already crashed.

Just amazing.

The really maddening thing is how the 9/11 commission paints a picture where it is the oddest thing in the world for the FAA to alert the military of a hijack and the military to intercept a hijacked plane. But these are old protocols that were in use for years, and there were domestic hijackings in the US before 9/11.

So really, something very strange happened with the military on 9/11, and the commission was intent on covering it up.
