Attacking Iran-- the October Surprise?

Clearly, the drumbeat for war is growing quite steadily.

For quite a while, I thought that administration talk of attacking Iran was a ruse, a distraction. But it seems clear they are slowly but surely building a case for war with Iran-- and for war sooner rather than later.

But why? Why are they manufacturing the war NOW? What do they get from it?

With so many things going wrong for the war-mongers these days, and the prospect that they would lose power and influence --even to some small degree -- might they be calculating that starting war with Iran would be a great way to get McCain, a pathological war-monger elected? The old rally 'round the flag in time of trauma effect?

In war, the elites are all on the same side.
