Afghanistan.
It's been a 13 year long exercise in inventing an enemy for our military to fight.
What a freaking waste of treasure for the vast majority of the US... though it did help the drug-addicted CIA, the death-addicted war industry and the oil-addicted oligarchs.

It's mainly to justify protecting the main source of funds for intel black operations: the Poppy fields, protected by U.S. military forces.
Was the heroin source-flower named after the 41st U.S. President? Don't know, maybe things just happen that way.
