The Contentious History of Banking in the US

Reading about this from Jim Marrs' book "Rule by Secrecy".

It's quite remarkable how contentious the idea of a central bank was in the early days of our country, and how presidents like Jefferson and Andrew Jackson strongly fought against a central bank.

Old Woodrow Wilson finally put in place the Federal Rserve System and instituted the Federal Income tax to go a long with it.

Now, are there ANY politicians who publicly speak out against the central banking system? Or has this simply become too ingrained in our system (for better or worse)?

Spooked:

Are you of the opinion that the country would be better off WithOUT a central banking system? If so, what's the basic reason why you feel that way?

I don't know enough about the pluses and minuses. I think the central banking system is so deep in our society that it would be next to impossible to get it out now. The only way would be some sort of major revolution, which doesn't seem too close to happening.
