Does Israel Really Control the US?

(Updated below)
This article echoes the sentiments of many people in claiming that Israel has an undue influence over the US. However, this commenter at the article has the right answer, I think:

While people claiming Israel controls the US often make good points, I don’t quite believe it, for a simple reason:

HOW would a small country like Israel control the world’s only remaining superpower?

If so inclined, the US could totally obliterate Israel within mere hours, and if they’re worried about consequences, they could blame it all on an accident (“Oops, those nukes we’ve launched at Iran’s power plant fell short of their target and obliterated Israel… We’re terribly sorry!”) or terrorism committed by someone else (“The terrorists from Iraqistan stole the launch codes!”).

A scenario I think is more likely (because it would explain why this sort of thing isn’t happening): The group of criminals that run the US are working with the group of criminals that run Israel to create a country to hide behind.

Basically, they do whatever they want and make sure Israel plays along, and makes moves that imply Israel controls the US (such as making some public statements to that matter, or being very visibly involved in e.g. terrorism against the Palestinians).

If the criminals on the US side get caught red-handed (e.g. the 9/11 lies collapse completely), they go “but Israel made us do it!”, they retaliate against Israel (after telling their allies in the Israeli govt to leave the country, of course), people who don’t see through it are happy, and they’re still there and still largely in control.

And of course, as shown by the Anonymous Physicist, it goes much deeper than this, when you talk about the ultimate Powers That Be.

But it is still really odd how so many right-wing Israel supporters (i.e. conservative assholes) are so extreme that they basically foment treason against the US in support of Israel. I can see why certain right-wing Jews/Israel-American dual citizens might do this-- but why would WASP American citizens do this? It's just weird. Either they are treasonous intel agents, or they have some truly fucked up apocalyptic agenda.

At the same time, it is worth noting that most Israelis are actually pretty reasonable, and not far right assholes, according to polls.

Update: I should note in this post the theory that Israel controls the US (and the world) via nuclear blackmail. I tend to have a hard time believing that the US simply lets Israel get away with this sort of horrible threat. Clearly, however, the US-Israel relationship is complicated, with different covert and overt elements, and there may be some element of truth to this.

"Israel controls the US" is a bit of an inflated caricature, which rests on a factual basis at its roots. What is true is that the Israel lobby controls US policy towars the Israel-Palestine conflict. The great strengths of the Israel lobby in this respect are linked with the fact that it does not attempt to control US policy in Latin America or anywhere outside of the Middle East. Even in the Middle East, the Israel lobby only attempts to dictate policy towards Saudi Arabia to the extent that it has some direct bearing on Israel. Otherwise, they leave the matter alone.

People have tried to argue against these facts by claiming that the US supports Israel as a strategic ally in the region. But that runs against all the evidence. When the Bushes in 1990-1 and then again in 2002-3 had been trying to rally the Muslim world into supporting the wars against Iraq, they found it necessary to avoid engaging Israel too closely as a strategic ally, because they knew that this would alienate Muslims. In those circumstances, Israel functioned more as a political hindrance than as a strategic ally. This has been the case ever since the "special relationship" was formed in 1967 by LBJ.

LBJ, it should be noted, had already had an established record of supporting Israel at the time of the Suez crisis in 1956-7 when the Eisenhower administration was furious with the Israelis. Although the "special relationship" was sold to the public after 1967 by the view that Israel was a strategic asset, in reality it was just LBJ advancing his own pro-Israel stance.

Now if someone is going to fly down the rabbit hole by claiming that all politics as it goes on in the US is secretly masterminded by the Learned Elders of Zion, then that's a different story. But this does not change the fact that the Israel lobby's hold on US policy towards that sector of the Mideast has been unbreakable for the last 43 years or so.

oh certainly!

(after telling their allies in the Israeli govt to leave the country, of course)

WMR has learned from two El Al sources who worked for the Israeli airline at New York’s John F. Kennedy airport that on 9/11, hours after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grounded all civilian domestic and international incoming and outgoing flights to and from the United States, a full El Al Boeing 747 took off from JFK bound for Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport.

It is a basic tenet of anthropology that if you want to get a clue into the complex weightings or values of a human society, study the taboos.
There is no greater political taboo than to criticize Israel, or expose just how incestuous the relationship is between U.S. and Israel.

Everett Dirkson, former U.S. Senator, announced in the chamber: "the U.S. Senate is occupied territory, occupied by Israel."

Just think of the potentials: literally hundreds of millions of "aid", and never repaid loans, go to Israel EVERY DAY. That money, in turn, buys a lot of influence with the very people that authorize the money in the first place. All of the killing, the madness, would stop if the money stopped. Why is the son of an Irgun the chief of staff of the white house?

Many moons ago, 15 years?, I heard an Israeli Foreign Minister answer a question regarding the nuclear black mail option. His answer was close to the following:
'We do not like to talk about it. We find the effect is much more, if we do not discuss it'.
