Covert Operations
Ask an American if they think the US government runs covert operations around the world, and I think chances are they will say yes-- or at least not be surprised that covert operations exist.
However, ask them if the US government might sponsor terrorism in Chile, in Afghanistan, in Nicaragua, or in the Phillipines (to name a few) and chances are they will be completely shocked at the idea. Not to mention if you dare mention the idea that the US government might sponsor terrorism in the US itself-- they would be horrified you could even think such a thing.
It's kind of amusing how most people sanitize their view of the types of policies the US carries out.
I wonder if the slowly deepening hell of Iraq will change that.
