More Fun with Right-Wing Conspiracies

Clearly this is JUST LIKE when Bush watched the first plane hit the North tower via his secret video feed in the presidential limo!*
Wingnuts, led as usual by Fox News, are flogging a brand new alternate history of the Sept. 11 attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, in which Barack Obama knew exactly what was going on, refused to launch a rescue mission, ordered the CIA to “stand down,” and maybe shot Ambassador Chris Stevens to death himself. Appearing on Fox News, retired Army officers David Hunt and Anthony Shaffer told Fox’s Jeanine Pirro that two drones were providing a “live feed” of the attack and said that his sources tell him that the President “was one of those in the White House Situation Room in real time watching this” and that he could have approved military action to save the embattled ambassador, but chose not to. And the example proving that a rescue could have worked? Ronald Reagan’s successful 1983 Grenada operation, in which Reagan used a military invasion of a Caribbean island to rescue the news cycle from coverage of the deadly bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut.

Get ready to hear a lot in the next few days about this “live feed” that Obama was “watching” — obviously, it was just like on “24,” with everything clearly visible, all the people on the ground clearly identifiable and maybe even labelled — and not a grainy image from the air… at night… in a city… looking down at what’s happening outside and inside a building that’s on fire.

Seriously, I just don't see the grand conspiracy here. Does anyone?

The attack occurred in a chaotic war-torn country, and the killings hardly served the purposes of the Obama administration.

Sure, MAYBE they didn't heed warnings of threats enough and were overly cautious in their response. But overall, this incident is pretty small potatoes, and clearly the Republicans are trying to score obnoxious political points with it at during the election season. Frankly, if anything, I would say the Republican interests promoted the attack as their version of an "October surprise" to try to make an incident to help win the election. Makes more sense to me than Obama letting an attack happen for some reason but then not having a cover story and delaying coming out with an explanation of what happened because you know, massive cover-up!!!

I am just continually amazed how idiotic right-wing conspiracy theories are! And undoubtedly, the same geniuses who believe this stuff about Obama, completely reject obvious things like that Bush lied us into war with Iraq!!!!

And just as bad-- if not worse-- the vast majority of the right-wing has NO FUCKING PROBLEM with the TRULY EVIL crap that Obama has done: the fake Osama killing, the drone killings of civilians, killing Americans without trial, endless war, indefinite detention, NDAA, the war on whistleblowers, etc.

THE GREAT THREATS CONSERVATIVES SEE FROM OBAMA ARE ALL 100% BONA FIDE BULLSHIT.

This is why I see Republicans as the biggest threat to this country--- they are all greedy and deluded corporate whores, idiotic Jesus freaks or some sickening combination of the two.

*joke, but can't completely rule it out given what Bush has said

Is "Sandy" an Engineered Storm?

There is a fair amount of talk that such a massive and disruptive hurricane, in such an unusual landing location, must be engineered-- possibly even by the Obama administration to affect the elections.  But I have not seen any convincing evidence in this regard.  Pointing out weird patterns on a satellite image, in the absence of careful comparisons, does not convince me.

For example:

While anything is "possible"-- I really doubt this storm is engineered.  I just don't think any weather modification technology we have is powerful enough to create and/or move such a massively energetic storm system.  The energy involved, that could be deployed without detection, would be far beyond our capabilities, in my opinion.

More likely is that this storm is more powerful than normal due to climate change-- global warming-- which is in fact predicted to produce stronger, larger and more powerful storms.

Spielberg's "Schindler's List"

I just watched this movie, for the second time.  I first saw it 19 years ago, when it came out in 1993.

First of all, it is a great movie-- superbly done, with a great story.

Second though-- I was particularly interested in how they treated the holocaust, since I really couldn't remember much about that aspect of the film from when I first saw it.

Officially there were several aspects, or stages, to the holocaust, particularly in Poland (where the movie takes place)--
1) the relocation of Jews to the ghettos
2) relocation of Jews from the ghettos to small local labor camps/concentration camps
3) relocation of Jews from small camps to larger "extermination" camps, such as Auschwitz-- the so-called "final solution"-- where millions of Jews were gassed to death.

Of course, in reality, Auschwitz was at least partially a labor camp, and not just a death camp.

Each of these stages involved a fair amount of random killing and inhumane treatment. But from what I understand, Holocaust "deniers" tend not to deny parts 1 and 2, and disagree with part 3-- particularly the gassing part.

Oddly,  "Schindler's List" only alludes to part 3 in the most indirect way possible.  Auschwitz is shown, and there is a smokestack shooting out cinders, and at one point, prisoners are being led in the basement of a building, with a fiery smokestack going full blast above them.

I don't even think there was a mention of gassing in the movie, or even millions of Jews dying, until the very end-- with a one-line title saying "in remembrance of 6 million Jews who died in the holocaust"-- or something to that effect.

All in all, there is surprisingly little for a holocaust revisionist or denier to strongly object to.

In this way, the movie reminded me very much of Oliver Stone's 9/11 movie, "World Trade Center", which scrupulously avoided any conspiracy aspects to the point that it didn't even shown the planes or the destruction of the towers (at least from the outside) and just focused on lucky few policemen who survived the destruction.

Thematically, the two movies are similar-- take a horrible historical event and focus on a small, relatively uplifting aspect of the overall event.  And also avoid obvious weaknesses of the official story.

The one part of "Schindler's List" that a holocaust revisionist might truly object to would be what is also the most horrific scene of the movie-- digging up corpses near the Płaszów concentration camp and burning them in a massive pyre.  According to wikipedia, this was a real event, and the ashes were later carried away by 17 trucks.  I imagine holocaust deniers would claim that it is virtually impossible to completely burn thousands of bodies completely in this way, and certainly it would be very impractical -- vast amounts of wood or fuel would be required for burning 8,000 bodies completely to ash.  Plus, burning bodies in a open pit or pyre is just not very efficient.  If this burning event did occur, one would expect huge amounts of bones to be left, that would not be so easily disposed of without a trace.

So, the movie is definitely worth a watch, if nothing else to see Ralph Fiennes' portrayal of Amon Goeth, the evil Commandant of the Kraków-Płaszów Labour Camp.

California May Become Civilized and Abolish the Death Penalty

Something positive for a change:
Voters in California are now effectively split in their views on repealing the state's death penalty, according to a new poll from USC/LA Times released Friday. Forty-five percent of the 1,440 likely voters polled oppose Proposition 34 (banning the death penalty), while 43 percent support repeal. The numbers are within the 2.58 percent margin of error, making it a statistical dead heat.

4ever War Hearts Drones

But there is nothing cute about the US love affair with drones.... it's sickening really:
Among those with some sense of humanity, some sense of the rule of law, some sense of the precious individual liberties terminally threatened by an ever-expanding government with ever-expanding powers to use force, today’s must-read Washington Post article by Greg Miller induces nausea and fear.

The Post‘s article exposes many previously unknown details about the Obama administration’s drone war, describing the targeted killing program’s dramatic expansion, terrifying innovations in the presidential kill lists which inform the targeted program, and the unprecedented willingness to violate the law to kill people by kingly presidential decree.

The article describes how kill lists have evolved into something called a “disposition matrix” which secretly collects information on targeted individuals and the efforts to kill or capture them. “Among senior Obama administration officials,” Miller writes, “there is a broad consensus that such operations are likely to be extended at least another decade” which is a “timeline [that] suggests that the United States has reached only the midpoint of what was once known as the global war on terrorism.”

There are many aspects of the troubling exposé, but the one that sticks out is the Obama administration’s achievement of making targeted killing by drone – that is, extra-judicial assassinations by unchecked Executive decree – utterly normal and routine. Miller talks about “the extent to which Obama has institutionalized the highly classified practice of targeted killing, transforming ad-hoc elements into a counterterrorism infrastructure capable of sustaining a seemingly permanent war.”

Permanent war. Obama has institutionalized a system of permanent war in order to allow an ongoing, blatantly authoritarian ‘war power’ to kill anybody he wants, anywhere, anytime without any charges or trials ever being brought. Obama has made permanent what “were regarded as finite emergency measures after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001,” Miller writes, establishing what “are now fixtures of the national security apparatus.”

Then there is this nauseating news:
Top Obama Adviser Robert Gibbs: Awlaki’s 16-Year-Old Son Should Have Had a More Responsible Father If He Wanted Us Not to Kill Him
Seriously-- he really said this!

It's too easy to blame Obama for this-- and he is surely responsible for this to some extent, but it clearly goes beyond him. This blatant illegality is all due to our sick, corrupt military industrial complex and our sick, corrupt media, the sick, corrupt agents who ran 9/11 and the sick, corrupt PTB who love to see humanity suffer.

Bush and Romney Both Campaigned as Non-Interventionalist Foreign Policy Moderates

Some interesting clips here, although Maddow is being idiotic about Bush really wanting to focus on domestic policy.  Of course Bush wanted war, and I strongly suspect Romney does too.  But both candidates seem to be playing the same game at the debates to fool the voters.

Former Mormon Explains Why Mitt Romney Should Never Be President

Even scarier than that temple video below:
The first thing you need to know about Mitt Romney is that he is a Mormon, aka a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They call themselves Christians, but they have so thoroughly brainwashed their members that anything the church says…goes.

No matter how much Mitt Romney says he would keep his church separate from Government, and how he would never let the church come in and run Government, commands of the church come first and foremost in Mormon minds. If the church wanted Mitt to let them come in (AND THEY WOULD) and help or direct the Government, that is how it would be. Why? Because the church leaders would supposedly have a “vision” that it is God’s will.

The church is all about trying to prop up the image of its founder, Joseph Smith. Joseph Smith had a supposed vision (prophecy) that one day a Mormon would become President of the United States, FOR THE EXPRESS PURPOSE, of letting the Mormon Church take over the U.S. Government. You can take it to the bank, that if Romney were President, the church leaders would have another “vision,” that a church takeover must happen.

By the way, that prophecy was simple revenge for perceived wrongs done to Joseph Smith by the government. Nevertheless they treat all his prophecies seriously, no matter how ridiculous they are.

The only other church I know of that elicits such obedience was The People’s Temple, and we all know what happened there, they drank the Kool-Aid. In other words, the Mormon religion is a cult of brainwashed souls. (snip)

This is one of the Republican strategies to keep the voting public too dumb to see the truth. Back when I was a youth in the church, we were taught that black people were descendants of Cain, and that the dark skin was the curse God put on him for killing Abel. Black people were to be shunned at all cost. We weren’t to be rude about it, but we weren’t to associate with them. This racist “teaching” is no longer part of Sunday School, because a few black people threatened to sue the church for racism and discrimination because they were not allowed to join. Suddenly the church elders had another supposed “vision” that blacks had paid their penance (still indicating they’d done something wrong) and they’re now allowed to join. But they were not allowed to hold church offices, so the threat to sue was renewed and lo and behold another “vision” comes down the pike and blacks are now allowed full membership. (snip)

Christians don’t believe that God changes his mind to fit the times, yet this is what the Mormon Church is saying he does. A further example of this is that Joseph Smith said polygamy was an “everlasting covenant” from God, but the government said that if Mormons continued to practice polygamy, Utah would not become a state. If you look up the words everlasting, and covenant, you can see once again that God SUPPOSEDLY changed his mind just to fit the times.

Mormons wear “special” undergarments. For reasons too long to go into, suffice it to say that they believe this underwear protects them from evil and gives them mystical powers, as well as making their bodies more visible to the spirits when the rapture occurs. There are symbolic cuts in the underwear that are the same as symbols of being a member of the Masons.

Also many of the secret ceremonies, hand signals and handshakes are derived from Masonic rituals. Romney wants to be President to fulfill a cult prophecy. When Mitt Romney received his patriarchal blessing as a Michigan teenager, he was told that the Lord expected great things from him. All young Mormon men — the “worthy males” of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as it is officially known — receive such a blessing as they embark on their requisite journeys as religious missionaries. But at 19 years of age, the youngest son of the most prominent Mormon in American politics — a seventh-generation direct descendant of one of the faith’s founding 12 apostles—Mitt Romney had been singled out as a destined leader.

The Cougar Club — the all male, all white social club at Brigham Young University in Salt Lake City (blacks were excluded from full membership in the Mormon church until 1978) — was humming with talk that its president, Mitt Romney, would become the first Mormon President of the United States. “If not Mitt, then who?” was the ubiquitous slogan within the elite organization. The pious world of BYU was expected to spawn the man who would lead the Mormons into the White House and fulfill the prophecies of the church’s founder, Joseph Smith Jr., which Romney has avidly sought to realize.

Economic goals according to Romney’s own book, “Believe in America” Mitt Romney’s Plan for Jobs and Economic Growth © 2011 Wants to provoke China into war by labeling the Chinese government as criminals in the world court. Never mind that they own most of our money, they have nuclear capabilities and over a million soldiers. I’m sorry, but we wouldn’t stand a chance.

Wants to privatize Social Security and Medicare. They say Obamacare would create death panels, but that’s nothing compared to what it would be if Wall Street controlled medical benefits. And with how well Wall Street has proven that they can screw up even a wet dream, do you really want them deciding how much your Social Security checks should be? I don’t think so. Romney would privatize his next meal if he could.

General plans (from stuff he has said lately) Wants to cut education funding and oversight. As a vulture capitalist, Mitt Romney cost thousands of employees their jobs and their retirement pensions, while he made out like a bandit. If elected president, Romney will kill Medicare and Social Security and further subjugate women’s rights, while destroying the EPA and other government services.(snip)

Romney avoids mentioning it, but Joseph Smith ran for president in 1844 as an independent Commander in Chief of an “army of God” advocating the overthrow of the U.S. government in favor of a Mormon-ruled theocracy. Challenging Democrat, James Polk and Whig, Henry Clay – Smith prophesied that if the U.S. Congress did not accede to his demands that “they shall be broken up as a government and God shall damn them.” Smith viewed capturing the presidency as part of the mission of the church. Smith’s insertion of religion into politics and his call for a “theodemocracy where God and people hold the power to conduct the affairs of men in righteous matters” created a sensation and drew hostility from the outside world. But his candidacy was cut short when he was shot to death by an anti-Mormon vigilante mob. Out of Smith’s national political ambitions grew what would become known in Mormon circles as the “White Horse Prophecy” — a belief ingrained in Mormon culture and passed down through generations by church leaders that the day would come when the U.S. Constitution would “hang like a thread as fine as a silk fiber” and the Mormon priesthood would save it.

Mitt Romney views the American presidency as a theological office.
Emphases added.

And then of course, we have this:

and this: While the nation fixates on stamping out non-existent voter fraud with photo-ID requirements, the perils of electronic voting go unchallenged.

Might As Well Post This Creepy-Ass Video of the Inside of a Mormon Temple

that everyone is talking about:

Note the cult-like Masonic aspect to this -- especially the handshakes.

This shit is funny too:
The last word that Jacob engraved on his plates was a strange one for a 6th century BCE North American Israelite writing in reformed Egyptian to use: adieu.

And I make an end of my writing upon these plates, which writing has been small; and to the reader I bid ... adieu. Jacob 27
And that ends the Book of Jacob.

Does Voting Matter?

Well, if voting didn't matter, why is there so much attempt to suppress voting by Republicans?  Why rig the voting machines?

Elections do matter, and the PTB do fear a mobilized populist voting populace.

Along these lines, long-time Obama critic Cornel West has a good interview explaining why it is still better to vote for Obama than let Romney win.

Endless Bogus War on Terror Requires an Endless Supply of Patsies

Even the most brain-dead citizen has to start wondering about the resources spent on this nonsense:
Federal prosecutors in Brooklyn charged a 21-year-old Bangladeshi man with conspiring to blow up the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, saying he tried to remotely detonate what he believed was a 1,000-pound bomb in a van he parked outside the building in Lower Manhattan on Wednesday.

But the entire plot played out under the surveillance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New York Police Department as part of an elaborate sting operation, according to court papers. The man, Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Ahsan Nafis, who arrived in the United States in January on a student visa, tried to make contacts and recruit people to form a terrorist cell to help him carry out an attack, according to a criminal complaint in the case.

But one of these recruits was an F.B.I. informer, who later introduced him to an undercover F.B.I. agent who helped him with the plot. In addition, the complaint said, Mr. Nafis spoke of a desire to “attack and kill” a high-ranking government official. A senior law enforcement official said Wednesday night that the official was President Obama, but that Mr. Nafis’s desire never got past the talking stage. Mr. Nafis was charged with conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction and providing material support to Al Qaeda. He could face up to life in prison if convicted.

Mr. Nafis arrived at Federal District Court in Brooklyn, looking boyish despite his trim beard. He spoke quietly when answering the questions of the magistrate judge, Roanne L. Mann.

The case appears to be the latest to fit a model in which, in the process of flushing out people they believe present a risk of terrorism, federal law enforcement officials have played the role of enabler. Agents and informers have provided suspects with encouragement, guidance, money and even, the subjects of the sting operations are led to believe, the materials needed to carry out an attack. Though these operations have almost always held up in court, they have come under increasing criticism from those who believe that many of the subjects, even some who openly espoused violence, would have been unable to execute such plots without substantial assistance from the government.

I Know Obama Is an Intel Patsy for the Military Industiral Complex and a Wall St Sell-Out

but Mitt Romney scares the shit out of me.

Not only does Willard Mitt Robme, along with Paul Ryan, seem to be intent on destroying the social safety net and turning the US into an outright corporate fascists state, he also seems to want a serious and major new war.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a new 9/11 type attack, as he has the same shits running his foreign policy as Bush did. Robme is a painfully obvious, obnoxious representative of the extreme wealthy people in this country, and it's just fucking depressing that he is even close in the polls with Obama.

Assuming the polls are even real, I can only think that hatred of the black dude in the White House is a big factor. Shit, how does such an unlikeable and weird asshole like Robme get so much support, with such a vague yet clearly evil set of proposed policies? Anyone who is a Mormon has to be a fucking liar or a brainwashed tool.

I know it is easy to write off Obama and Robme as being the same thing... but they just aren't.  They may have some similar corporate viewpoints, but Robme is a greedy, unpatriotic bully-- the worst of the 1%.

RIP Mr Magic Bullet

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Former U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, the outspoken Pennsylvania centrist whose switch from Republican to Democrat ended a 30-year career in which he played a pivotal role in several Supreme Court nominations, died Sunday. He was 82. Specter, who announced in late August that he was battling cancer, died at his home in Philadelphia from complications of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, said his son Shanin. Over the years, Arlen Specter had fought two previous bouts with Hodgkin lymphoma, overcome a brain tumor and survived cardiac arrest following bypass surgery.

Specter rose to prominence in the 1960s as an aggressive Philadelphia prosecutor and as an assistant counsel to the Warren Commission, developing the single-bullet theory that posited just one bullet struck both President Kennedy and Texas Gov. John Connally — an assumption critical to the argument that presidential assassin Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. The theory remains controversial and was the focus of Oliver Stone's 1991 movie "JFK."
He sold his soul for the magic bullet, and I can't feel sad about his passing.

The Madness of the American Empire

It truly is a disease that has taken over the minds of the PTB of the US.

We are bankrupting ourselves by dominating the world, killing people, toppling regimes-- yet we can't seem to win a war or establish stability.

Given how long this madness has gone on for, one might think the PTB want eternal instability and/or they have an ulterior motive for all this killing and spending on military hardware....

GMO Madness

Odd news piece that came out right before 9/11/2001 and any recent news of this technology is nowhere to be found:
Scientists have created the ultimate GM crop: contraceptive corn. Waiving fields of maize may one day save the world from overpopulation. The pregnancy prevention plants are the handiwork of the San Diego biotechnology company Epicyte, where researchers have discovered a rare class of human antibodies that attack sperm. By isolating the genes that regulate the manufacture of these antibodies, and by putting them in corn plants, the company has created tiny horticultural factories that make contraceptives. 'We have a hothouse filled with corn plants that make anti-sperm antibodies,' said Epicyte president Mitch Hein.
Then this scary shit--
The truth really is much stranger than fiction, especially when it comes to the open and admitted future plans of major biotechnology companies. One such case involves a biotech company known as ProdiGene, the officials from which actually faced jail time back in 2002 for contaminating the traditional food supply with ‘biopharmaceutical’ crops that were growing pharmaceuticals and vaccine components associated with AIDS, diabetes, and diarrhea. Contaminating 500,000 bushels of soy with their biopharmaceutical corn that contained pharmaceutical and vaccine components associated with deadly diseases, the company was slapped with a minor $500,000 fine by the USDA (the same government organization that gives Monsanto’s crops special speed approval and ignores the company’s blatant disregard for its regulations). As it turns out, the pharmaceutical crops were actually mixed in with traditional crops and unknowing farmers had already been planted for human consumption. The USDA claims, however, that the crops were confiscated. After receiving the fine and some press coverage on the subject, ProdiGene decided not to apologize but to expand their mission. The company, in combination with estimates by Dow AgroSciences, stated that they sought to reach $200 billion in biopharmaceutical crops within 10 years (as of 2004). Furthermore, they estimated that 10% of the corn in the United States will be biopharmaceutical in nature. In other words, it could contain hidden nano-scale vaccinations, antibiotics, anti-depressants, or any form of pharmaceutical drug.

One California based company has even created a spermicidal corn to be used as a mass contraceptive. In an AlterNet piece covering the issue entitled ‘Spermicidal Breakfast Cereal’, author Carmelo Ruiz-Marrero asks: What would happen if contraceptive corn or antibiotic wheat accidentally made it to the supermarket? Nobody knows, but that isn’t stopping agribusiness from pursuing these crops. Vaccines, Drugs, Sterilizations to be Fused into Nation’s Dinner? The existence of such technology brings the fight against GMOs to an entirely new level. Outside of the known effects such as recent links to tumors, DNA damage, and other complications, GMO crops on your dinner table could soon contain pharmaceutical drugs like statins in an effort of ‘mass medicating’ the public.

Such an effort would likely be used in conjunction with others to fight against those who choose to opt out of vaccinations, delivering the vaccine through the food supply. It may sound absurd, and it is, but is not a new notion. Researchers previously designed a method in which mosquitoes could be ‘flying vaccine carriers’ to inject large numbers of individuals with vaccinations without their knowledge of consent. As one spokesman for a major ecology organization explained: “One single mistake from a biotechnology company and we’ll be having someone else’s prescription medicine for breakfast in our cereal,” explained Larry Bohlen from Friends of the Earth, an international ecology organization. The information ties in with the recent news revealing that Monsanto now owns a monumental ‘gene silencing’ technology for pharmaceutical use in humans. The king biotechnology company even forged a recent alliance with Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to get the initiative started. After all, Monsanto would not lose an opportunity to conquer a large portion of the massive $200 billion biopharmaceutical crop market. Other corporations are looking to get a chunk too, with the molecularfarming.com website acting a hub for farmers willing to lease their land for biopharmaceutical experiments across the globe. Touting a net worth of $80 billion in the coming years, investors are continually looking to get their hands on biopharmaceutical growing operations to churn out drug-containing GMO crops for mass consumption — and mass profits. So far, they’ve garnered contracts as far as Zimbabwe to continue their operations.

Just like regular GMOs, DDT, and cigarettes, experts are concerned that the real effects of biopharmaceutical growth may not be recognized until decades later. “What will have to happen before the Department of Agriculture takes seriously the fact that millions of people almost ended up consuming experimental drugs and chemicals?” asks Brandon Keim, of the Council for Responsible Genetics in reference to the ProdiGene scandal. “A few sensational deaths? Maybe an increase in debilitating disorders which will only be noticeable some decades later, when it’s already too late?”

If the public grows more aware of GMO dangers with the grassroots support and potential passing of Prop 37, however, biopharmaceutical farms may never see mainstream success.

Finally this (not surprisingly)--

"Political and corporate elite shun GM food on their own plate"

IF YOU LIVE IN CALIFORNIA, PLEASE VOTE FOR PROPOSITION 37 THIS NOVEMBER 6TH! It's actually a real chance to slow the madness.

P.S. About that Stanford study that said there was no advantage to organic food.

The Bombing of the USS Cole Was an Inside Job!

I was trying to research this some time back, and there is quite scarce info on it... in any case, this article goes over the attack in some detail and finds it very suspicious indeed:
What little we know about what happened on October 12, 2000 in the port of Aden is not comforting.  We know that 17 sailors were killed by a terrorist plot that, on its face, was simply absurd.  Two men in a rubber dinghy waited for a monthly visit by a U.S. warship and then depended on the crew of that warship to mistake their approach, in broad daylight, for that of a garbage barge.  The terrorists also depended on the leaders of that U.S. vessel, which was in a heightened readiness against a terrorist attack, to disregard a dozen safety measures required by the force protection plan that the ship had filed for the visit.  All of this was dreamed up by the 20-year old Bin Attash and his colleagues who had only recently bought back their stolen outboard motor so that the plan could go forward.

Meanwhile Captain Lippold has gone on to write a book and join the board of directors for the Homeland Security industry company, HALO Defense Systems.  The U.S. has been accused by Yemeni officials of facilitating and/or profiting from the attack and has declined to punish the captain for his apparent gross negligence.  Instead, the vague and unconvincing story of the Cole attack has been used by the 9/11 Commission and the mainstream media as one of the most significant pieces of historical background supporting the official account of what happened on 9/11.

Several Tanker trucks full of political ink have been spilled on Mitt Romney's tenure as a vulture capitalist at Bain Capital. A more important story, however, is the fact that Bain alumni, now raising big money as Romney bundlers are also in the electronic voting machine business. This appears to be a repeat of the the infamous former CEO of Diebold Wally O’Dell, who raised money for Bush while his company supplied voting machines and election management software in the 2004 election.

In all 234 counties of Texas, the entire states of Hawaii and Oklahoma, half of Washington and Colorado, and certain counties in swing state Ohio, votes will be cast on eSlate and ePollbook machines made by Hart Intercivic. Hart Intercivic machines have famously failed in Tarrant County (Ft. Worth), adding 10,000 non-existent votes. The EVEREST study, commissioned by the Ohio secretary of state in 2007, found serious security flaws with Hart Intercivic products.

Max Blumenthal on "Liberal Zionism"

Interesting and disturbing:
Blumenthal said that he wanted to challenge the myths of liberal Zionism because he believes that these misconceptions are responsible for worsening the current Israeli-Palestinian crisis. He centered the crux of his argument on his belief that a two-state solution will not bring about peace.
“I think liberal Zionism has lost much of its political influence in Israel, but it remains very culturally influential and has an enormous currency in the United States among liberal Americans, especially American Jews, in perpetuating and preserving the fallacy that the two-state solution will deliver peace or a viable Palestinian state,” he said.
Blumenthal addressed the perception that liberal Zionists are pro-peace. According to him, the liberal Zionist idea of peace differs from the Western liberal definition. “[The liberal Zionist peace] is not defined by an opposition to war or militarism; it’s an embrace of militarism,” he said.
Blumenthal also confronted the belief that liberal Zionists are politically liberal. “This is the biggest deception: One of the key things about liberal Zionists and what distinguishes them from liberals in the United States is that unlike American liberals who believe in civil rights, [they] are committed to the engineering of an ethnic democratic majority, which puts them as the most right-wing figures we can think of in American society,” he said.
According to Blumenthal, discrimination against Palestinians is evident today through Israeli attitude. Citing a personal experience, Blumenthal spoke of an incident during which he watched drunken Israeli youths stab a Palestinian, an issue that was left unacknowledged by officials.
 (snip)
Arguing that Israel’s current ideologies are fundamentally apartheid, Blumenthal proposed that the ideal solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict would be a compromise allowing Israeli Jews to stay within their communities, while simultaneously devoting increasing energy toward reconciliation.
“Reconciliation means that settler colonialist leaders need to admit what they have done, and concede power,” he said. Blumenthal believes we should prepare the groundwork for a single state instead of prolonging what he sees as the slow process of ethnic cleansing.
“If you look at polls of Israeli attitude, Israeli youth are increasingly racist and eliminationist toward Arabs and other non-Jews, and it’s a reflection of an indoctrination process that begins at [a young] age,” Blumenthal said.
(snip)
Arguing for a movement toward a narrative of equal rights, Blumenthal said that making the idea of apartheid mainstream in Israel will bring to light the struggle of the Palestinians.
“It’s a one-state reality,” Blumenthal said. “The question is whether it will be a single apartheid state or some version of a single state like a confederation with equal rights for everyone.”

Curious How the One Conspiracy Theory the Major Media Spend Time On Is the One That Global Warming Is a Scam

Hmm, I wonder why that is?  Who does it benefit?  So hard to figure... But this is interesting:
So what kind of voices are being published in these papers? The findings here are also mixed. The researchers break down skeptics into three categories: Those who completely deny the planet is warming (trend skeptics); those who accept that the planet is warming, but question if it’s caused by humans (attribution skeptics); and those who falsely claim that increasing CO2 emissions and a warming planet will be a good thing (impact skeptics). In Brazil, China, France, India, and the UK, we see a mix of skeptics in the second and third categories who accept that the planet is warming, but question the cause and impact. In the U.S., we see a different trend: a much greater number of deniers who believe that there is no evidence that the planet is warming. (The researchers attribute this to the prominence of Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe, the most outspoken climate denier in Congress, who often appears in news stories). Such results would support the view that the USA is particularly notable for the presence of skeptics who question the need for strong climate change policy proposals. The study, while only covering newspapers and only looking at two short time periods, shows that American climate denial is unique and more prevalent than in other countries, and that ideology does influence how the topic is covered.

Who Are the Terrorists?

Iran Air Flight 655 was a civilian jet airliner shot down by U.S. missiles on 3 July 1988 as it flew over the Strait of Hormuz at the end of the Iran–Iraq War. The aircraft, an Airbus A300B2-203 operated by Iran Air, was flying from Bandar Abbas, Iran to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. While flying in Iranian airspace over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf on its usual flight path, it was destroyed by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes (CG-49). All 290 onboard including 66 children and 16 crew perished.[1] The incident is ranked ninth among the deadliest disasters in aviation history. ... The Vincennes had entered Iranian territorial waters after one of its helicopters drew warning fire from Iranian speedboats operating within Iranian territorial limits.

I Can't Wait for HAL9000 Killer Drones

Madness:
The dawn of the 21st century has been called the decade of the drone. Unmanned aerial vehicles, remotely operated by pilots in the United States, rain Hellfire missiles on suspected insurgents in South Asia and the Middle East. Now a small group of scholars is grappling with what some believe could be the next generation of weaponry: lethal autonomous robots.

At the center of the debate is Ronald C. Arkin, a Georgia Tech professor who has hypothesized lethal weapons systems that are ethically superior to human soldiers on the battlefield. A professor of robotics and ethics, he has devised algorithms for an "ethical governor" that he says could one day guide an aerial drone or ground robot to either shoot or hold its fire in accordance with internationally agreed-upon rules of war.

But some scholars have dismissed Mr. Arkin's ethical governor as "vaporware," arguing that current technology is nowhere near the level of complexity that would be needed for a military robotic system to make life-and-death ethical judgments. Clouding the debate is that any mention of lethal robots floods the minds of ordinary observers with Terminator-like imagery, creating expectations that are unreasonable and counterproductive.

If there is any point of agreement between Mr. Arkin and his critics, it is this: Lethal autonomous systems are already inching their way into the battle space, and the time to discuss them is now. The difference is that while Mr. Arkin wants such conversations to result in a plan for research and governance of these weapons, his most ardent opponents want them banned outright, before they contribute to what one calls "the juggernaut of developing more and more advanced weaponry."
Just FUCK Ronald C. Arkin. Fuck him with a barbed wire dildo and ban this madness.

Romney's People Are Working on a Jimmy Carter-October Surprise Strategy?

Isn't this a tacit admission that the Reagan people did collaborate with the Iranians in 1980, throwing the election to Reagan? For conspiracy-minded people, the original October Surprise conspiracy is well accepted and is more or less in the background of all the evil crap from the right-wing military-intel establishment that has ruled US politics for decades. But still, it was never really admitted by the (worthless, criminal) mainstream media that there WAS an October Surprise. Yet the Romney campaign is blatantly flying this flag out there, and giving the game away.
