We Don't Have a President

You’d be forgiven if you hadn’t noticed. His verbal bombshells are louder than ever, but Donald J Trump is no longer president of the United States.
By having no constructive response to any of the monumental crises now convulsing America, Trump has abdicated his office.
He is not governing. He’s golfing, watching cable TV and tweeting.
How has Trump responded to the widespread unrest following the murder in Minneapolis of George Floyd, a black man who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for minutes as he was handcuffed on the ground? Trump called the protesters “thugs” and threatened to have them shot. “When the looting starts, the shooting starts,” he tweeted, parroting a former Miami police chief whose words spurred race riots in the late 1960s.
On Saturday, he gloated about “the most vicious dogs, and most ominous weapons” awaiting protesters outside the White House, should they ever break through Secret Service lines.
(snip)
The Democratic-led House passed a $3tn relief package on 15 May. Mitch McConnell has recessed the Senate without taking action and Trump calls the bill dead on arrival. What about other pressing issues a real president would be addressing? The House has passed nearly 400 bills this term, including measures to reduce climate change, enhance election security, require background checks on gun sales, reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act and reform campaign finance. All are languishing in McConnell’s inbox. Trump doesn’t seem to be aware of any of them.
There is nothing inherently wrong with golfing, watching television and tweeting.
But if that’s pretty much all that a president does when the nation is engulfed in crises, he is not a president. Trump’s tweets are no substitute for governing. They are mostly about getting even.
When he’s not fomenting violence against black protesters, he’s accusing a media personality of committing murder, retweeting slurs about a black female politician’s weight and the House speaker’s looks, conjuring up conspiracies against himself supposedly organized by Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, and encouraging his followers to “liberate” their states from lockdown restrictions.
He tweets bogus threats that he has no power to carry out – withholding funds from states that expand absentee voting, “overruling” governors who don’t allow places of worship to reopen “right away”, and punishing Twitter for factchecking him. And he lies incessantly.
In reality, Donald Trump doesn’t run the government of the United States. He doesn’t manage anything. He doesn’t organize anyone. He doesn’t administer or oversee or supervise. He doesn’t read memos. He hates meetings. He has no patience for briefings. His White House is in perpetual chaos.
America must listen to its wounds. They will tell us where to look for hope Reverend William Barber Read more His advisers aren’t truth-tellers. They’re toadies, lackeys, sycophants and relatives.
Since moving into the Oval Office in January 2017, Trump hasn’t shown an ounce of interest in governing. He obsesses only about himself.
But it has taken the present set of crises to reveal the depths of his self-absorbed abdication – his utter contempt for his job, his total repudiation of his office. Trump’s nonfeasance goes far beyond an absence of leadership or inattention to traditional norms and roles.
In a time of national trauma, he has relinquished the core duties and responsibilities of the presidency.
He is no longer president. The sooner we stop treating him as if he were, the better.

Trump and Hitler Both

-- were malignant narcissists, devoid of empathy
-- suffered from paranoia and delusions of grandeur.
 -- had strict authoritarian fathers.
-- were deeply affected by the death of a brother.
 -- performed poorly in school.
-- struggled with temper tantrums they never grew out of.
-- evaded the draft by claiming medical deferments.
-- failed at everything they attempted in their early adult lives.
-- wrote autobiographical manifestos explaining their world view.
-- admired demagogues and ruthless dictators.
-- believed their country’s democratic government was run by a criminally corrupt deep state only they could fix.
-- rose to power by appealing to rural Protestants and did not appeal to the “liberal elites” in large cities.
-- campaigned on a promise of returning their country to glory by making it great again.
-- were nationalist, isolationist, and anti-globalist
-- rejected ties to other countries through migration, economic trade, and security alliances.
-- claimed unfair treaties were crippling their countries.
-- made border closings a centerpiece of their political campaigns.
-- were white supremacists who blamed problems within their country on minorities and immigrants. -- loved to give hate speeches to large crowds of supporters.
 -- never accepted blame
 -- constantly instigated political controversy
-- encouraged supporters to wear branded clothing showing support.
-- vilified political opponents, calling them leftist, liberal scum, socialists, communists, and spoke of the desire to imprison them.
-- derided the electoral process and referred to it as being rigged against them.
-- pretended to respect Christianity but were actually atheists who despised and feared religious people.
-- had to overcome old guard conservatives who did not approve of their demagoguery, as well as military and cabinet-level advisors who believed they were reckless and worked against them (all of whom eventually became sycophants or were driven out for disloyalty).
-- used blackmail over their own party to coerce support.
-- made frequent comments suggesting they would never relinquish power.
-- attacked the rule of law, eventually stacking the courts and law enforcement with loyalists.
-- manipulated their followers with lies and propaganda.
-- refused to acknowledge any mistakes and responded to critics with personal attacks and name-calling.
-- rejected scientific data that undermined their false claims.
-- attacked the media and claimed any bad news about them was fake.
-- demanded military parades in their honor.
-- demanded that those within their government pledge loyalty to them over loyalty to their country.
-- gave up alcohol, but were secretly addicted to stimulants.
-- allegedly suffered from increasing bowel problems and walked with a shuffling gate, showing signs of diseased minds.
-- locked immigrants in cages denying them the right to due process.
-- caused the death of massive numbers of their own citizens without accepting any blame and without expressing any empathy or remorse for the loss of life they caused.

How Trump Controls GOP Senators

Thread from Uncle Blazer:

Imagine yourself as a GOP Senator with skeletons in your closet. Maybe you’ve taken bribes or accepted illegal campaign contributions. Maybe you’re cheating on your wife, or you’re a closeted homosexual. In short, you’re compromised.
Along comes a candidate for POTUS with deep ties to the Russian mafia state who knows how to extort compromised people. And he’s going to control the DOJ/FBI (with an assist from Russia) and learn all your secrets. And even if you don’t have secrets, he may be able to frame you.
Even if you’re totally clean and you’re not afraid of mob POTUS trying to frame you, what about your family members? Are they all clean too? Because you can bet your ass mob POTUS is going to find out if they aren’t.
You have two choices. You can speak out against the candidate and hope he’s defeated or you can pledge loyalty. Maybe you can even do both: speak out at first and, if that doesn’t work, pledge loyalty after he wins. (Looking at you, Lindsay.)
Once mob POTUS takes office, you have more choices to make. Maybe you can just resign and slink away. But maybe mob POTUS won’t allow that. Maybe he’ll use his leverage to force you to stay in office and do his bidding. In addition to using “the stick” on you (i.e., blackmailing and extorting you), mob POTUS can also use “the carrot” on you (i.e., bribes and favors).
Remember, you’re probably a criminal in this scenario, so you’re cool with bribes and favors. Unless you and your family are clean as a whistle, you’re screwed. And, let’s face it, if you were clean as a whistle you wouldn’t be a GOP Senator. Being dirty is part of the job description. So you may as well go all in and take the carrots rather than fearing the stick.
And once you’ve taken even one bite of one carrot, you’re fully owned by POTUS. Your bite of the carrot is the ultimate kompromat. There’s no way out now without taking yourself down.
Once you’re owned by mob POTUS, you’d be smart to start gathering your own kompromat on mob POTUS as an insurance policy. Mutually assured destruction. Now mob POTUS can’t take you down and you can’t take him down either. You’re in the same lifeboat.
That’s the world we live in now. The GOP is compromised and Trump controls them. Anyone who steps out of line ends up with his “head on a pike.”
Burr stepped out of line as Chair of Senate Intelligence, and he was dealt with accordingly.

And more general GOP perfidy here.

Trump Dirt from Noel Casler

Key takeaways from this interview with Noel Casler, who worked with Trump on Celebrity Apprentice:

1) Trump is incontinent, wears Depends, and has a lot of "accidents"
2) Trump is a drug addict-- uses Adderal as an upper and valium as a downer
3) he's got a lot of dirt locked away in a vault on his apprentice show tapes
4) he's harassed way more women than we know about
5) he's dumb but he's not senile
6) he flouts norms all the time and too many people let him get away with it (this happened back then too)
7) scariest thing-- he doesn't really care about money that much, he's just cruel and he really likes destroying things, which makes a lot of sense with his presidency.

Also check out this podcast from "Stuttering John" that has Casler on it just this past week. Really informative-- everything he says fits, in my mind, with what we know about Trump. Rick Wilson is on too and has some interesting things to say about the election.
