Protesting via Hunger Strike
I was watching an Indian TV show last night (Piya Ka Ghar-- a Hindi serial on ZeeTV), and one of the main characters decided to protest labor conditions at a factory by going on a hunger strike.
Of course there is a long history of using hunger strikes in India as a way of mounting a non-violent protest. Ghandi was quite effective at this.
I have to wonder what would happen in the US if someone went on a hunger strike to protest the 9/11 cover-up.
I think if done right this would generate a lot of publicity, and might even work to cause some relase of information.
Obviously right now, I am not ready to do this (mainly because I have two young children), and I doubt anybody else is either. However, this is something to keep in mind-- effective non-violent ways of protest.
