But I guess I am rather curious why it is that politically-oriented gay men would be attracted to the GOP in the first place, considering it means they have to subsume themselves in hypocrisy and live a lie even more than they normally would.

I'll resist the easy answer that the GOP naturally attracts hypocrits.
