Where Is the Outrage???
Goddamnit, I just heard this guy, a marine interrogator who tortured prisoners in Iraq, being interviewed on the Diana Rehm Show (NPR).
The callers were almost completely clueless or numb to what was being discussed. It was the most maddening thing I've heard in a while. Some callers made some good points against torture, but overall the show was incredibly UPSETTING--
NOT ONE CALLER EXPRESSED OUTRAGE OR EVEN SEEMED PARTICULARLY UPSET ABOUT THE US MILITARY TORTURING PRISONERS IN IRAQ.
There were about a dozen calls and a couple of emails that were read*. Of course there were a couple of freaks defending what the military did.
The guy, Tony Lagouranis, was perfect in his responses and made all the right points.
But to hear the callers, I can only ask: where has our country gone? What happened to our moral compass? Was it just 9/11? Or a combination of things?
*I tried to call, but for some reason my call wouldn't go through-- I got an error message saying the number (an 800 number) was out of my calling range (WTF?).
