Oathkeepers Revisited
I had previously approvingly linked to the Oath-Keepers group, who stated goal is to follow the constitution and resist imposition of martial law. Certainly, I see nothing wrong with that.
Thus, it is disturbing but perhaps not surprising to see Bill O'Reilly as well as Talking Points Memo go after these guys in a disparaging manner. And it really is irking to see commenters at TPM poo-poohing the slightest hint of conspiracy-- the conspiracy in this case being people worried about martial law-- by linking them to right-wing extremists and "terrorists".
I will admit however, that the one disturbing thing about the Oath-Keepers is that they were only formed right after Obama was sworn into office, and hence I would have had more respect for them if they were so worried about martial law when Bush was still in office. So there is a worry that the Oath-Keepers are some sort of covert Op with two goals:
1) to create a list of truly patriotic soldiers that can be neutralized in case of real martial law
2) to foment right-wing paranoia and extremism about Obama specifically, when the problems are much deeper

1 Comments:
1. General Petraeus assures all that a "solution" to the Afghan affair is long term.
The Jingoism of Oath-Keepers, etc., builds support for this shit. What else? This is a Spiel that the USan can not afford and may want to try for a job in a poppy field down the line.
2. Meanwhile,15,000,000 without a job and congress may not extend payments for jobless. 2.7 million lose the check in April. NYT
1 and 2 are connected, but they don't seem to get it. Too much jingoism.
