The people have spoken and seem to be saying this time "enough is enough". An assault weapons ban is almost certain to be passed.

no, the people have not spoken, the govt/media has spoken. they are not one and the same.
another tradgedy involving guns occurs and almost the very first words out of the politico/media are "gun control". god forbid anyone in the politico/media would question 'what psychiatric drugs was this young person whose brain is not even fully developed yet, on, and at what high dosage?'
Plenty of real people I know are calling for gun control, though no one is even talking about banning guns or anything extreme. The tides have shifted for sure. Yes, the media is pushing it to a large extent too. But there is a real sentiment for change now.
There are lots of causes for any violent act, and talking about medications is fine. I'm sure someone in the media has talked about it, but who knows the real story here anyway.
Just for the record, ASSAULT weapons have been illegal for many, many years, and besides, ANY weapon can be
defined as an assault weapon, especially if the definer is a so-called liberal...except when it comes to wanting to ban things e.g.s
tobacco, alcohol, large soft drinks,
and the list goes on -- cars that aren't loaded with all kinds of "safety" do dads that add si much unsprung weight that 25 year cars get better (sometimes much better)
fuel economy. Oh, and cost far more than any possible safety benefits.
"A Woman's a Woman, but a good cigar's a smoke" - Until they too, get banned by Benedict Obama and all those other Liberal (sic) Democrats.
P.S. Those very same Democrats, led by O'Benedict are proposing to cut SS, Medicare,and Medicaid plus
cutting taxes on thee rich.

NO ONE in the media will EVER talk about prescription meds or the extreme effects that they cause upon young people whose brains are not even fully developed yet - and every single columbine-like shooter, for the last 15 years or so, has been a young person whose brain was not fully developed yet, and whose poor brain was laboring under the load of prescription meds. the reason that the govt/media will NEVER report this is because big pharma runs constant advertisements on the govt/media TV, and god forbid the govt/media ever loses a single penny from their advertisements.

but by all means, continue to blame it all on gun ownership.
If the people aren't smart enough to think for themselves, there will always be someone of superior intellect who will shape the people's opinion and get them to make a majority decision that just happens to favour..... guess who?
The superiority complex and arrogance of the PTB is not misplaced when they so easily shape so many opinions through engineered fear and are allowed to do so again and again and again.
Anyone foolish enough to believe that mass shooting deaths will end when the law abiding citizens hand over their firearms had better go chat to their local criminals and gangsters to see how many weapons they plan to hand in.
Otherwise a quick trip to see the Mexican drug cartels may help focus one's thinking about firearms and violence.
Better still, go talk to the surviving relatives of the unarmed Afghanistan peasants slaughtered by US forces and see how being unarmed helped them!
Before all you Americans give up your firearms, is anyone going to pay these PTB people a visit and show them what it's like to be on the other end of a weapon?

The rulers of America hate the Bill of Rights. They believe citizens must obey the government and follow orders like sheep. A gun is a symbol of independence, so it must be taken away.
2nd Amendment rights will stay. All that will happen is restrictions and maybe new requirements that will only rise the cost of buying/owning firearms. Ammo prices will also rise.
Middle and lower classes will suffer, but the rich will not. Their only concern always is available supply, not costs associated with purchase and ownership. Of anything they want.
